Beliefs, Aims and Work Methods
* building and celebrating community
* welcoming and respecting diversity
* safeguarding children's rights
* promoting families' rights and responsibilities
* bringing people together
* being responsive to the changing needs of the community
Our vision
Dr Bells aims to be a welcoming place where families with young children in Leith can get encouragement, support and advice in a relaxed atmosphere.
Work Methods
Community development to make sure that the services provided locally are the ones that are needed. We believe in asking local people what they want.
We aim to be a “one stop shop” where families can get what they need under one roof.
The Centre is for everyone. However, we believe that the most needy families should get the most support.
We use the community café as a way of getting people to drop into the Centre to see what happens here
We believe it is important that families get the help they need, when they need it
What we are hoping to achieve
A community where parents and carers get help with parenting
An improvement in parenting skills
A community which looks after its children and helps them to grow
The kinds of service offered to families locally are the ones they say they need
Local parents will develop their skills through a variety of volunteering and training opportunities
Children and families will get the help and support they need quickly
Families will learn about healthy eating
Improved mental health in families with young children
Other things we are trying to do:
Get the café to the point where it is bringing income into the Centre
Increase our income from the creche, café and room rental by £2000 each year
Raise at least £1000 per year by fund raising locally
